Otto “Dale” Popenhagen, 87, of Oelwein and formerly of Randalia, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, December 29, 2012, at Oelwein Health Care in Oelwein, Iowa
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Fayette, Iowa with Pastor Jason Princer and Pastor Michael Holmen officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Fayette with Military Honors by the Arnold-Rogers American Legion Post # 312 of Hawkeye, Iowa. Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
A Memorial Fund has been established in his name for Oelwein Health Care, Oelwein, Iowa.
Otto Dale Popenhagen was born January 21, 1924 in Fayette County, Iowa the son of Otto G. and Alice Grace (Voshell) Popenhagen. In 1941, he graduated from the Fayette High School. Dale proudly served in the United States Army. On May 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helen Hinrichs at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Dale farmed and was also employed at Rath Packing in Waterloo. Helen died on September 8, 1985. On September 23, 2000, he was united in marriage to Ann Hutter at Peace Lutheran Church in Oelwein. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fayette and the Arnold-Rogers American Legion Post #312 of Hawkeye.
Dale is survived by his Wife, Ann Popenhagen of Oelwein, Iowa; 2 Daughters, Sandra (Bob) Craig of Kansas City, Missouri and Linda Pickett of Palm Bay, Florida; Step-son, Paul (Jan) Hutter of Mesa, Arizona; Step-Daughter-in-law, Joyce Hutter of Louisville, Kentucky; several Step-Grandchildren; several Step-Great Grandchildren; Brother, Duane (Katy) Popenhagen of Grinell, Iowa; and many Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife, Helen; Son, Chip Popenhagen in 1997; Grandson, Michael Pickett; Step-Son, Jim Hutter; and a Sister, Lucille Tope.
